Smithers Dance fundraiser - African Children's Project

Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to see a fantastic dance performance this Saturday night (Sept. 20) and in doing so, help raise money for the Migwani Children’s Dormitory Project (www.wowtown.ca/migwaniproject Time: 7:30 PM Place: Della Herman Theatre Cost: By Donation – suggestion minimum of $10. The talented dancers performing Saturday include Miriam Colvin, Bonnie Hughson, Chantelle Pidherny, Jessica Catorc, Hillary Kerr, Jordyn McCrea, Erin Vandermark, Sarah Murray, and Madison Rensby-Wills. All, with the exception of Miriam Colvin who is a professional modern dancer, are part of Creative Roots Performers Team. The evening promises to be entertaining with a variety of dance styles from ballet, jazz, modern, tap and variety.

Some of the pieces performed Saturday night have won the hearts of audience members in festivals throughout BC as well as many awards in competitions. Miriam Colvin is an independent artist and creates and performs works locally as well as in larger centers in Canada and the US. Chantelle Pidherny, Bonnie Hughson, Jessica Catorc, Jordyn McCrea all represented the north at the provincial dance competitions in Burnaby last May. Madison Rensby-Wills was chosen Junior Canadian Dancer of the Year and went to the US representing our country. Even at these competitions the girls did extremely well with recognition awards as well as high placement. They are passionate and talented performers and this is an evening you will not want to miss. The proceeds from this event will support the Migwani Children's Dormitory Project. This project is a partnership between Child Focus Africa and a local group of Smithereens to build a dormitory for 42 handicapped children in the Village of Migwani, Kenya. These children, because of their handicaps, are totally rejected by their families and the Government. They have virtually nothing. The dormitory will be constructed by local volunteers, and other volunteers will teach them life skills so that when they are 16 they can look after themselves (making room for other children in the dormitory). ALL the money raised will go toward the building. There are no costs for administration or fund raiser salaries associated with this project. Attending the Dance Showcase is one way that you can support this meaningful project while enjoying an evening of great entertainment. Hope to see you there!

Thank you to the above sponsors who's support has helped make this project a success!
