WHAT IS THE MIGWANI CHILDREN'S PROJECT?
About MCP..
Our Purpose:
MCP is a group of caring Canadians in Smithers, British Columbia who have
been joined by families and others in North America in raising funds to construct
a dormitory in the African village of Migwani, Kenya for 42 orphaned handicapped children.
These children have been abandoned by their families and their society because
of their handicaps. These children are viewed as cursed by the local
culture including their families (some of these children are HIV Aids).

The plight of these 42 children came to our attention last year.
Visit the children page and learn more about the
children we are helping through this project and how we learned about them.

Once we meet our objective of raising $19,000 for building materials,
the money will be given to the Catholic Parish Priest who will ensure
that it goes toward building materials. Local volunteers will construct
the building and volunteers will also supervise and teach these children
life skills.
Donations in North America can go directly into a charity account.
There are several benefits to our project. Some of which are:
-
Provide a home and ensure supervised care for these 42 children.
-
Ease the burden of parents who cannot afford to provide the care the children need.
-
Enable the children to attend school and enhance their developmental needs (life skills)
-
Bring together the school management, local Government representatives and community members as
they share responsibilities in the project cycle.
-
Through this project, the community will be more sensitized of the plight of these children
and a sense of ownership in the overall project will be achieved.
-
Bring some focus on the plight of the children and help to demonstrate to the local people that
they are, in fact not cursed.
